As of October 2004, for all Germans (including infants) only the Passport of the Federal Republic of Germany valid, which is machine readable. You can recognize it by the word EUROPÄISCHE UNION. All other passports are no longer valid. If you are a German citizen, you can travel with the above passport without a visa. up till 90 days in the USA. This type of entry is according to the Visa Waiver Program = VWP (in English: Visa Waiver Program). However, this only applies if you register online in time for your entry into the USA. Register at the ESTA: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/. Or put the other way round: If you already have a valid visa, online ESTA registration is not required.
If you are a German, you can travel with the above passport and with B1/B2 Visa up to 180 days in the calendar year in the USA stop. The B1/B2 visa can be easily obtained at the US embassies or consulates that You can find them via the telephone book in some German cities for example, Berlin and Frankfurt.

Each passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the end of the trip have validity beyond that.

P.S:
The visa number can be found on the visa sticker on one side of the passport. The visa number can have 8 or more digits and is printed in RED and can be found at the bottom right of the visa sticker. Please note that the "Control Number" (top right starting with a year) is NOT the Visa number.
